I really enjoyed this article because I also disagree with the ridgid model that has become popular. I am trained in career and life design counselling and so ikigai is an interesting concept to me. I'm always very keen to learn about a more authentic Japanese understanding of it so I'm very grateful for your article.

In my opinion the Ikigai frameworks paints a picture of the Japanese culture that isn’t aligned with how people actually live their lives. It seems like there is a lot of pressure when it comes to your carrier, something the Ikigai framework doesn’t have. So I love how you reframed it into the smaller things in life, keeping the focus on what matters in terms of friendship, family, personal development. It feels more realistic and endurable.
